The spread of Erasmus' ideas was only possible because of the invention of the printing press. The printer/publisher played an enormously important role. Printers worked closely with Erasmus, who often lived with them for months at a time. Yet Erasmus' work also ended up being burned at the stake.
Sander de Wilde worked with themes such as reproduction, burning, fire, ashes, transience, durability, types of paper, print runs, the printer's mark, friendship and humour.
